What is it?
Yellow fever is a viral infection that is spread by certain species of day biting mosquitos. It can cause severe symptoms such as jaundice and damage to organs. During outbreaks, it can have mortality rates of up to 50% and so vaccination is recommended by the World Health Organization when travelling to risk areas.
Risk areas
Yellow fever is a risk in tropical parts of Africa, South America, eastern Panama in Central America and Trinidad in the Caribbean.
Prevention
Those visiting yellow fever risk areas should practice strict bite avoidance measures to help limit and reduce their risk.
Length of protection
Protection against yellow fever following vaccination is life-long.
Vaccine Schedule
A highly effective live Yellow Fever vaccine is available and in general vaccination is recommended for all persons visiting countries where there is a risk of Yellow Fever virus transmission. We provide risk assessment, vaccination, advice and a Yellow Fever certificate if you receive the vaccine. If it is not appropriate for you to receive the Yellow Fever vaccine on medical grounds, we can provide an exemption certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book my yellow fever vaccine?
At least 10 days before you travel, as your yellow fever certificate only becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. Booking earlier is even better, especially if you need other travel vaccines too.
Is the yellow fever vaccine available on the NHS?
No. The yellow fever vaccine isn't available on the NHS and can only be given at registered yellow fever vaccination centres like ours.
What should I bring to my yellow fever vaccine appointment?
Bring your passport, your travel plans (where you're going and when) and any previous vaccination records. This helps our pharmacist complete your risk assessment and fill in your certificate correctly.
Can I get other travel vaccines at the same time as my yellow fever vaccine?
Often, yes. Our pharmacist can review your whole trip and let you know which other vaccines or travel health advice you might need, so you can sort everything in one visit.
